Notes Stated 1st Edition, and one of only 1900 copies of the1st Printing of the author's 1st book, in original dustjacket, and housed in a grayish-green cloth-covered full chemise and slipcase with a black leather spine label with gold printing. The Near Fine book is bound in rough finish woven ivory colored cloth with a black spine, a gold foil with black printing wrap-around title band mounted on the binding, and it has publisher's orange upper page edges. The book is straight, clean, very tight (probably unread), with no previous owner's writing or soiling. There is a very slight bump to the upper spine end by the back fold, a tiny black dot (pencil-point sized) to the lower rear binding panel, and a short, narrow depression to the front of the gold foil band that didn't remove any color. The dustjacket is surprisingly well preserved for aged uncoated paper - very close to Near Fine but I'll call it VG+. It is price intact, clean and not fragile, with some of the normal toning to the edges (less than it looks like on our scan) and a bit more toning to the spine though the black and red spine printing isn't faded at all. It has 3 small edge nicks at spine end folds, 1 very short completely closed edge tear upper front panel near the spine, a small surface abrasion at the lower spine end not interferring with lettering - and that's it as far as wear. There are a few faint finger smudges that aren't obtrusive at all. The dustjacket is now protected by a clear, removable heavy mylar cover. The chemise and slipcase have been custom made to fit the book at some time in the past. The chemise folds to cover the book all the way around (with ends open) and has a ribbon-pull to get the book and chemise out of the slipcase easily. There is just a tiny bit of cloth wear to the outside edges of the slipcase, and some small surface scratches not affecting the gilt lettering to the leather title label on the slipcase's closed side. Our scan makes the chemise look a different color than the slipcase but it isn't - both are the darker color shown in the slipcase spine image. Quite a handsome presentation of the author's 1st book of short stories. ; 9-1/8" x 5-3/4"; 270 pages
