Notes The true story of the assassination, in the shadow of death, passing away, funeral ceremonies; together with his ancestry, boyhood, student days, his career as soldier, lawyer, statesman, governor, and President. The principles for which he stood and the triumphs he achieved and his home life -- from title page. The book is illustrated with numerous engravings made from original photographs. Bound in brown cloth with a cameo illustion of McKinley on the front cover and gilt printing. On the lower portion of the title page, there is a printed inscription by the author that states "Since President McKinley was assassinated I have written this book. I never wrote any other covering his life and death; Oct. 7th, 1901...Murat Halstead". This is printed, not individually inscribed by the author. There is also the author's name at the end of the text; under magnification I can't really tell whether printed on the page or signed. There is some fraying, rubbing and wear of spine cloth and corners; paper slit at gutters, edge tears on first few pages. Also, at some time in the past, tape has been applied between page 18 & 19. Text block is fully bound and illustrations in very good condition. ; B&W Illustrations; 9 1/2" x 7 1/2"; 472 pages
