Notes Beautiful dark green embossed cloth binding with gilt lettering on front and spine which is still bright and shiny; this is a 1913 reprint of the 1901 edition. Book is clean, straight and tight with upper page edges that are gilt. There is some wear to edges and corners but there are no marks or tears on any pages. There is a paper only slit at the gutters but it is still tight. I believe the front end page has been removed, as the half-title page is the first page. The very last page in the book has a crease down the middle but it is not torn. Translated by Alfred Sutro, book covers all aspects of a bee's life. There are chapters on The Threshold Of The Hive, The Swarm, The Foundation of The City, The Life of the Bee, The Young Queens, The Nuptial Flight, The Massacre Of The Males and The Progress of the Race. ; 7.5 x 5 inches; 427 pages
