Notes 1st edition thus/1st printing. Author: de Reaumur, Rene Antoine Ferchault. Translated & with Intro & Notes by William Morton Wheeler. William Morton Wheeler was the Professor of Entomology at Harvard University. The author was born in 1683 at La Rochelle, France. His greatest work was Memoires pour server a l'histoire des insectes, in 6 volumes. This book is taken from unpublished material located at the Academy of Sciences in Paris, which was to make up the 7th volume. Reaumur's work was of very great importance in the history of science, in natural history and earth sciences, mathematics, and metal working. 4 illustrations, including frontispiece. Has the original French, plus English translation. The book is straight, clean & tight, with no writing in it. It has just a touch of shelfwear to binding edges and a tiny bookseller's label at lower edge of the front pastedown. The dustjacket is gray, uncoated paper and fragile (in a dustjacket protector now). It has some small edge chips/nicks (largest at upper spine), but is clean, unfaded & crisp. ; Illustrated
