Notes Gray cloth, decorated binding with darker gray printing on the front and spine. Top edges are gilt and others are rough-cut. Book is tight & straight, first illustrated edition. There are 12 full-page photogravures by Albert Herter, including the frontispiece, all with tissue guards (some have two tissue guards for each illustration), plus an additional 8 smaller text photogravures, also by Mr. Herter. The binding is slightly rubbed, the spine ends and corners are lightly bumped, with some wear to edges and corners. The spine cloth is also slightly darkened. There are no marks or soiling to the text. This is the author's second book and his first novel, a historical novel set in New Orleans. ; Photogravures; 10" x 7"; 491 pages
