1st edition/1st printing. Author's scarce first novel and second book. Stated First Edition. A fairly common book in the book club edition, but seldom seen in collectible condition as a 1st trade edition. This author had previously written a non-fiction book under her own name, Barbara Mertz, and she also writes a different type of mysteries using the name Elizabeth Peters. Straight, clean tight, book with just very slight bumping to front binding panel corners and a previous owner's name (dated 1967), in a bright, clean, unfaded dustjacket which has been priced clipped (but still shows the called-for '9/66' at the lower front flap corner) and has the slightest trace of edgewear to the folds. Extremely nice. Gothic romance set in a Scottish Highland castle.
